A route to shape around your client
A northern Faroe Islands walking itinerary benefits from staying in Klaksvík rather than returning to the capital each evening. Three nights there support guided walks and a possible Kalsoy day, with flexibility for ferries, access arrangements and changing visibility.
The outline allows 6 nights, including arrival and departure planning. Keep the sequence, extend a favourite base or change the balance of activity and downtime. This is an illustrative FIT journey for travel agents; accommodation, transport and experiences are selected for the final brief.
A flexible starting point
Choose walks for ability, visibility and land-access rules. Confirm Kalsoy transport and local arrangements in advance; the excursion is not placed before the international flight. A second northern day provides a weather alternative.
Nature & Wellbeing
We can tailor this outline, combine it with another route, or design a new programme from scratch.

Suggested experiences and services
Hotel and activity examples to shape your client’s journey. Availability, suitability and final inclusions are confirmed for each brief.
Hotel examples
Hotel Klaksvík
A hotel in Klaksvík overlooking the town, fitting the three northern nights without repeated drives from Tórshavn.
Hotel Hafnia, Tórshavn
A central Tórshavn hotel for exploring the harbour and old town on foot, with one base for several day excursions.
Activity examples
A locally guided northern walk — choose the terrain and length around the forecast and the travellers’ experience.
Kalsoy day — coordinate the transport and current access arrangements; keep the visit conditional on weather and capacity.

Day 1
Tórshavn
Arrive on Vágar and travel to Tórshavn for the first night. A short harbour walk and dinner in the capital offer an easy start before the journey continues towards the northern islands. Overnight: Tórshavn.

Day 2
Through Eysturoy
Travel through Eysturoy towards Klaksvík, pausing in Gjógv when conditions are suitable. The day introduces the northern landscapes through village stops and coastal views, with time to settle in before the walking programme begins. Overnight: Klaksvík area.

Day 3
A guided northern walk
Set out with a local guide on a walk chosen for your ability and the day’s conditions. The route offers a closer understanding of the northern islands, while wind and visibility determine how high and far to go. Overnight: same base.

Day 4
Kalsoy, if conditions allow
A visit to Kalsoy can be arranged with transport planned in advance. If weather and access allow, a guided lighthouse walk adds a striking coastal perspective; otherwise, the island’s villages provide a gentler alternative. Overnight: same base.

Day 5
Keep one day flexible
This flexible day allows a postponed walk to take place before returning south. When the mountains are less inviting, lower village paths and coastal stops can fill the journey back to Tórshavn without forcing the programme. Overnight: Tórshavn.

Day 6
Vágar
Continue to Vágar and spend the afternoon on a short outing close to your accommodation. Staying on the airport island for the final night leaves time to enjoy the scenery without a long transfer before departure. Overnight: Vágar.

Day 7
Departure
Return the hire vehicle or meet your arranged transfer for Vágar Airport. The final morning remains free of remote excursions, keeping the departure straightforward after a week among the islands.
