The South Funen archipelago offers a Denmark sailing itinerary at a gentler scale. A Svendborg base, a skipper-led day and two nights on Ærø combine harbour life with island time, while the final mainland night leaves a margin before onward travel.

Day 1
Svendborg
Arrive in Svendborg by the planned rail or road connection and settle into the harbour town. A waterfront walk gives a first impression of South Funen before the next day’s sailing. Overnight: Svendborg.

Day 2
Sail the archipelago
Meet your skipper for a private day sail through nearby archipelago waters. The route follows the weather and your comfort aboard, with a return to Svendborg and the same accommodation in the evening. Overnight: Svendborg.

Day 3
Ferry to Ærø
Take the reserved ferry to Ærøskøbing and settle into your island accommodation. The afternoon is devoted to exploring the village on foot, with time for its streets and harbour rather than another long journey. Overnight: Ærø.

Day 4
A full island day
Spend a full day discovering Ærø through gentle cycling, a local bus outing or a coastal walk. Staying a second night allows the route to reflect your interests and energy, with no ferry deadline in the afternoon. Overnight: Ærø.

Day 5
Back to Svendborg
Return to Svendborg by ferry and enjoy a final afternoon on the mainland. If the earlier sailing was postponed, another outing may be possible when the weather and skipper’s availability allow. Overnight: Svendborg.

Onward travel
Continue by rail or road towards your next destination. An overnight stay in Copenhagen can be added when the international connection calls for a more comfortable break in the journey.
